Complex draw for Toulouse, Montpellier and Castres clubs

Published on

The group draw for the 2021-2022 European Rugby Cup took place this afternoon in Lausanne, Switzerland. The twenty-four participating clubs (Top 14, Pro14, Premiership) are thus divided into two pools of twelve. Here are the rivals of the 3 Ocitany Clubs participating.

The draw did not destroy Toulouse Stadium. The title holders were Toulouse Hats 1. Fate put them in Pool B of this Champions Cup. They will face defending European champions London Wasps (winners of the 2004 and 2007 tournaments), Cardiff Blues from Wales and winners of the 2018 European Challenge.

Olympic cast against Harlequins and Munster

Part of the Castres Club in Pool B will go to England and Ireland. In addition to these last two editions, Tornais will have to exclude English champions Harlequins and two European Cup winners from 2006 and 2008, the Irish from Munster.

Note that no two French teams can compete against each other, as the rules make it clear that teams from the same championship cannot compete against each other.

Montpellier Herald against 2 contenders for the title

Finally, a very complicated draw for Montpellier players. The winners of the last European Challenge Herald will face the Englishmen in the Extension (2020 winners) and the Irish from Leinster (four-time event winners, 2018 final title). Montpellier’s two opponents are favorites for the final title.

The other 5 French clubs are in dispute

For other French clubs, Stade Rochellez will face Bath (ANG) and Glasgow Warriors (ECO), while Racing 92 will face Northampton Saints (ANG), Ospreys (Wales), Union Bordeaux will face Leicester Tigers (Angles) and Tolstoy (Torre).

ASM Clermont will face Sail Sharks (ANG) and Ulster (Ireland), Stade Franchise will face Bristol Bears and Irish from Conach.
