Kai Howertz scored a hat-trick as Chelsea won 6-0 against Bar-0a and advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Tommy Abraham opened the scoring for the much-maligned Chelsea team, and before the break Howarts doubled their lead. Ross Barkley finished third in the second half at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, before Howarts added two more.
It was good news for Chelsea’s new signings and Frank Lampard’s debut as Thiago Silva made his debut for the club, while Ben Chilwell enjoyed his first performance, stepping down from the bench and replacing his replacement Olivier Giroud in sixth place.

Howarts players as Chelsea beat Barsley
Although Barലിa had a somewhat early start, their confidence grew and the game took them to Chelsea, testing their defense once or twice and forcing Silva and Fico Tomori to make some mistakes early on.
But a mistake in the back passed the ball to Abraham while trying to play as an opener in the 19th minute, before he touched it before shooting Brad Collins.
Nine minutes later, Chelsea doubled their lead. It was a good job from Mason Mt.
- With the debut of Thiago Silva, Frank Lampard made eight Chelsea changes. Kai Howertz also started while Ben Chilwell was on the bench. Willie Caballero scored after being left out of the Cape Arisabalaga team.
- Barnsley boss Gerhard Schruber made five changes from the part he missed reading over the weekend, including Time Styles, Apo Holm and Patrick Schmidt.
Hopes of a Barnsley comeback in the second half were soon dashed. 49 minutes later they were again responsible for their downfall. Alex Mowatt found Barclays charging in the box and firing home as it made it so easy to remove the nails from Howard’s toes.
Six minutes later it was four and Chelsea picked up the ball again, with Matteo Kovacic playing on Abraham and finding Howertz in midfield. 65 minutes later the hat-trick was completed and Howarts reconnected with Abraham. Defeat the goalkeeper and move the ball backwards before the ball slides into the empty net.
The best night cap for Chelsea was off in the 83rd minute, when Chilwell crossed for Guillroord to finish sixth from close range.
Analysis: How did Thiago Silva perform on his debut?
For Thiago Silva, it was a quiet start to life in England. A lot of great touches and silky passes came out of the defense in the first few minutes of his debut, but within 14 minutes he may have got some rest, as in a slow moment he gave up the ball and gave Barnslick a chance to score.
Despite turning 36 this week, he has proven to be no slouch as he has stepped down from the position on multiple occasions for some major interventions and sliding challenges.
There will be big challenges to come, but overall it was a very useful one hour long workout for the former Paris Saint-Germain star. However, if Lampard pulls him into the Premier League squad on Saturday in West Brom, it will be a game you can watch live on Sky Sports.
The managers said …
Of Chelsea Frank Lampard: “I’m happy with the hand, I wanted the night to be for him because Kai had no pre – season and it took a few days to sign for the club.
“Tonight was a great exercise to see how we could work from the ball, he was a part of it. He did a great recovery tackle for Rose’s goal and then move around to more central areas to gain some freedom with the ball.
“I thought it was a great combination with Tommy, and I’m glad he’s grown into the game in terms of confidence. It’s been a great night for the hand, and the first of many of them.”
Of Barnsley Gerhard Schruber: “We found good moments in the first half, we had a lot of good pressure, especially we had 20 minutes on hand, but we could not convert any chances. This is the biggest problem for us right now. We are not taking our chances, but when we can do it, the games go in another direction. .
“We helped Chelsea with three goals through mistakes, and then it was difficult. We didn’t have the right intensity and attack in the second half, so Chelsea were able to play without pressure.”
Man of the Match – Guy Howertz
The 21-year-old, who has just two Premier League appearances, could not be expected to be subjected to any kind of immediate and significant pressure, but the price and the nature of the modern game made it a big night at Howerts.
He looks more comfortable in a more focused role, takes goals better and shines with Abraham, and his performance deserves a respectable mention. You expect Lampard Havertz to remain in 10th place to put out a great performance.
Chelsea travel to West Brom on Saturday in the Premier League, live in the Sky Sports Premier League from 5pm, kick-off at 5.30pm. Barnsley returned to Coventry’s home championship action on Saturday at 3 p.m.
