A California Gov. Democrat Gavin Newsom has now voted to define his resignation or stay – still counting.
Everything indicates that he will remain in that position, because, With 62% of the vote counted, two-thirds of voters voted in favor of Newsom (Watch the video below).
California has decided to keep Governor Gavin Newsome in office
Seeing this vote, many Brazilians may ask themselves: Newsome impeached? Have you been accused of corruption or something? What happened to the voters who voted to interrupt their term?
But it is not so. Quite simply, a section of the population was unhappy and decided to comply with a petition requesting a vote to decide whether he should remain in government. This process is called “recall”.
California law allows, If about 15% of voters want it, politicians can be ousted before it expires.. Some other states also allow this.
But the governor’s fall is rare: it’s only happened 4 times in American history.
Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected governor of California in 2003.. The population suspended Democratic Governor Gray Davis’ term and voted to take over the actor.
The good thing about the population is that it ends up being a way for politicians to put pressure on them to keep their campaign promises.
This time, unlike in 2003, predictions indicate that a majority of voters have decided for the stability of the Democrat Newsom. The results should be certified next month.
