Anil Menon is of Indian descent and was born in Ukraine. He serves as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He was the first SpaceX Flight Surgeon to be built by a medical institution during NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission. Dr. Menon has experience working as a flight surgeon at NASA. Anil Menon, 45, is an emergency medicine physician.

NASA profiles say Menon helped with the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, and the 2011 Renault Air Show crash. He graduated with a degree in Neurobiology from Harvard University in 1999 and a postgraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 2004. In 2009 he received his Doctor of Medicine from Stanford Medical School.

He also works in Afghanistan
He was deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. He also worked for the Himalayan Rescue Association to care for mountaineers on Mount Everest. Menon was later transferred to the 173rd Fighter Wing for military duty and later settled in Aerospace Medicine. As a pilot, he has more than 1,000 hours of flying experience. His wife, Anna Menon, works at SpaceX, and they have two children.
