WhatsApp has confirmed that this feature will gradually appear in 2021, and by December 2020, according to Reuters, the voice and video calling feature will only be available in the mobile version of the messaging app.
Earlier, the calling feature was available to specific users and now many are starting to see the option in the web version of WhatsApp and expect the company to release a permanent version in the coming months.
Some users who see the call option in the desktop version have posted screenshots of the new feature on Twitter Adding a new feature of interest to many users of the “WhatsApp Web” will allow them to make direct voice and video calls from their computers.
If the user is the recipient of the call, the feature works to show a separate pop-up window with name and profile picture along with the connected contact in addition to the two buttons to receive the call.
For the user to make a self-calling, a button dedicated to making calls will appear next to the contact name, and a popup window will appear when calling, but with a smaller button to mute the microphone, another button to activate the camera, a button to end the call and a special menu.
