A robot-dog will protect the archeological site in Pompeii

Published on

The “spot” robot dog was deployed in Pompeii (Italy) to protect an archeological site. The mission of the device is to monitor the ancient city day and night to fight against looting.

The device, developed by Boston Dynamics, is still in the testing phase. This process is currently in the data collection phase to enable the “spot” to fully fulfill its mission.

The skills of the robot dog will be useful against those who loot antiquities. Sure, he can break into underground galleries, which are often difficult to access, but the thieves have borrowed. A “spot” loaded with sensors can detect obstacles and open doors.

Overall, it can carry up to 14 kg in the back and can withstand temperatures of -20 to 45 degrees Celsius.

Robot abandoned by New York police

If it appears in the ancient city, the “spot” was once used by the New York police. The deal between “NYPD” and the company Boston Dynamics, however, broke down.

John Miller, head of NYPD Intelligence and Counterterrorism, said the decision was linked to robots becoming targets of rivals.
