Catherine Conan, English lecturer at the UBO in Brest, will be the guest of the Da Lec'h All Association in Spézet on Friday, September 27 at 8 p.m.
The academic is a specialist in Irish literature and history. She wrote a thesis on Strange and Familiar in Contemporary Literature in Belfast (2007) and a book on Irish literature in the 21st century (published by Rennes University Press in 2021).
This Friday evening she will retrace the history of the Famine in 19th century Ireland. “Catherine will look at pre-famine conditions, agricultural conditions, housing and population. They will address the subject of land tenure and its relationship with Great Britain. She will explain what has happened since 1845: the drought in the potato crop, the famine, the attitude and decisions of the Great Britain government. The play has had a huge impact on Irish politics, particularly agriculture and the demography of the island,” explains Reval Huynh.
Irish musical entertainment will be offered before this gathering at 7 p.m.
