The camera core of the Vera C Rubin Observatory clicked its first test on 3,200 megapixel digital photos – the largest ever taken in a single shot.

According to one Statement SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, the images are very large, one of which takes 378 4K ultra-high-definition TV screens to display at full size. It added that the resolution was very large and that a golf ball could be seen at a distance of 24 km.

The Statement He said the sensor array would be integrated with the world ‘s largest digital camera and would produce panoramic images of the southern sky every 10 years, as observed at the Rubin Observatory in Chile.

The camera data will be provided to the Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LST), which will use the observatory to create the largest astronomical film of all time to shed light on some of the greatest mysteries in the universe, including dark matter and energy. .

Vincent Wright, LST Camera Project Manager at DIE’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, said: “This is a big milestone, and the Focal Level will produce images for LST, so it’s Rubin Observatory’s ability and sensitivity.”

Steven Kahn, SLC’s Director of Observations, added:

Cannes said the completion of the LST camera focal level and its successful testing was a huge success for the camera team. This will enable the Rubin Observatory to deliver the next generation of astronomy.

The first 3,200 MP images are of different materials, and one head of Romanesco – a type of broccoli – was chosen for its detailed surface texture.

Aaron Rudman of SALC, who is responsible for the assembly and testing of the LSD camera, noted that taking pictures was a significant achievement, adding that they were able to determine the extent possible by utilizing the focal plane every square millimeter. It maximizes the science of what can be done with it.
