Huhtamaki expands fiber lid production capacity in Northern Ireland

Huhtamaki has announced that it has started production of smooth molded fiber (SMF) lids at its factory in Lurgan, Northern Ireland.

This capacity increase demonstrates Huhtamaki's commitment to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging, while bringing production closer to customers in the UK and Ireland.

This new investment strengthens Huhtamaki's already firmly established presence in the fiber products sector through strategic partnerships in Germany, the Netherlands and the United States, as well as in Asia. With 40 years of experience in the field of fibers, Huhtamaki uses state-of-the-art technology that guarantees superior quality products, including the patented “click-fit” function, which ensures a safe and reliable closure of its lids.

“We are delighted to now be able to supply our customers in the UK and Ireland with locally made smooth molded fiber lids,” said Huhtamaki Fiber Food Service EAO President Fredric Davidson. “This investment demonstrates our desire to partner with our customers to offer locally produced and high quality packaging solutions. We are proud to carry on a 70 year tradition of pulp production in Lurgan. »

Huhtamaki's fiber lids, like all of its SMF products, are home compostable and easy to recycle, reflecting the company's commitment to a circular economy. The project is part of Huhtamaki's initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and design reusable, recyclable or compostable products.
