(AOF) – NEON has signed two turnkey EPC contracts with Omexom on one side for construction of solar power plant and TLI Group on the other side for construction of 110 KV substation at the site, thus officially starting construction. Neoen won the Ballinknockane project in 2022 as part of the RESS 2 call for tenders, with the solar park benefiting from a CfD (contract for difference) system until 2040. The solar power plant will be Neon's first asset connected to the Irish high-voltage electricity network and the first large-scale power plant to be installed in County Limerick. It will inject its first electrons into the network by mid-2026 and be fully operational in the first half of 2027.
The solar park will generate electricity equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 16,000 homes per year and prevent 21,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
