Republic of Ireland Ambassador Austin John Gormley paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth on Thursday 10 October 2024 at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement released after the meeting, Austin John Gormley said the meeting with the Prime Minister was very cordial and positive. He highlighted that the discussions focused on strengthening the bilateral relationship between Mauritius and Ireland in several areas such as financial services, tourism and agribusiness. He said that the issue of Chagos Archipelago was also raised in the meeting.
Austin John Gormley is Ireland's Ambassador to South Africa and Lesotho and Ambassador-designate to Botswana, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and SADC. Formerly Irish Ambassador to Sweden.
Austin John Gormley was previously Director General of the Department of Foreign Affairs' General Services Division from 2017 to 2020 and Director of the Irish Passport Service from 2015 to 2017. Since 2011, he has been the Consul General of the People's Republic of China (Shanghai). , formerly Director of Communications and Education for the Irish Aid Programme.
