The Vietnamese leader delivered a political speech there on the theme “A vision for a new era of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Ireland, for peace, cooperation and development”.
He said that after three decades of diplomatic relations, friendship and multilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Ireland have grown. Vietnam has always attached great importance to its relationship with Ireland, a dynamic member of the European Union (EU), a leading country in innovation and a source of global elites, he added.
The two countries should create new spaces for development and face new global challenges, while contributing to peace, cooperation and development without initiative, To Lam underlined.
“As active and responsible members of the international community, Vietnam and Ireland should continue to promote multilateral cooperation and respect for international law, including resolving disputes through peaceful means. They must defend the role of the United Nations and introduce new ideas of cooperation for peace, security, stability and development of humanity. In accordance with the United Nations Law of the Sea of 1982 and international laws, there is a need to contribute more actively to maintaining safety, security, freedom of navigation and overflight in seas and oceans. “We must continue to promote the liberalization of trade and investment, participate in the development of new rules of the game, a more transparent and more equitable framework for international economic cooperation,” he said.
The Vietnamese leader visited the book room, where the original version Kells' bookIt is a medieval work. He also visited the old library, found the “Irish Declaration of Independence 1916”, Ireland's iconic harp, one of only three surviving harps from the Irish Middle Ages, and signed the book of honour.
