Tesco relies on biomethane for its deliveries in Ireland

Published on

Tesco Ireland, a subsidiary of the Tesco supermarket chain, has announced that it has received 50 biomethane trucks to operate across its national distribution network.

The initiative is part of Tesco's strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and improve the environmental sustainability of its operations. These new biomethane trucks will replace 50 diesel units.

Operated by Tesco's transport partner DHL, the fleet will deliver goods from distribution centers in Dublin to the chain's various stores.

Each truck has a range of 700km on a full tank, allowing Tesco to visit any of its 177 stores and return without refuelling. The trucks will refuel at a new BioNGV station operated by Flogas in St Margaret's, north of Dublin.

National Roadmap for Biomethane
Ireland recently announced the publication of a national biomethane strategy. The strategy describes a series of policy and regulatory measures aimed at supporting the development of the sector. The country aims to produce and supply up to 5.7 TWh of biomethane annually by 2030.
