Immerse yourself in Joyce's world

Bloomsday Festival is a unique experience not only for fans of famous Irish writer James Joyce but also for literary lovers and curios. Throughout the day, participants dress in Edwardian fashion as characters from the novel. So it was no surprise to see hundreds of straw boaters on the streets of Dublin that day, a fashionable and iconic hat worn by many other than Joyce at the time!

To mark the occasion, the James Joyce Centre, which has hosted the Bloomsday Festival since 1994, will host a number of events throughout the week:

  • Public Readings: Passionate actors and volunteers will read extracts from “Ulysses” at various iconic sites in Dublin, immersing you directly into the world of the novel.
  • Literary Walks: Participants can follow Leopold Blume's journey with expert guides who provide historical and literary explanations at each location visited.
  • Theater Reenactments: In period costumes, actors will recreate key scenes from the book, transporting the audience to Dublin in 1904.
  • Lectures and Debates: Academics, writers and Joyce experts will discuss the influence and different interpretations of “Ulysses”.
  • Cultural events: Art exhibitions, concerts, film screenings and other cultural events will enrich the programme, highlighting Joyce's influence on art.
