Riva del Garda – A great conclusion to the final of the 29er Eurocup, the last regatta of the season for Fraglia Vela Riva and the last race in Alto Garda, with a northerly wind on the final day with three races and a well-deserved win. The home crew, former world vice-champion, Demurtas-Santi, started in uncertain weather and little wind and recovered from sun, wind and tough regattas over the last two days. Hours in the water are recorded. The event, which ended with 6 qualifying races and 7 finals, also represented the final stage of the “Eurocup” circuit of this youth class, which grows every year, thanks to the FIV Race Committee, always ready in windy times. In Riva del Garda, this edition set a record for the spectacular entries of 150 crews from 19 countries, who colored the waters of Garda Trentino with wind-swept jennakers. After an initial struggle with the French, the organizing club, Fraglia Vela Riva, finally capitulated. Alex Demurtas and Giovanni Santi certainly exploited their knowledge of the place, but after Tuesday’s absolute parity they managed to keep their opponents in good control as the final day of racing stretched.
Irishmen Clementine and Nathan van Steenbergh, the heroes of a great recovery, were second overall and first in mixed crews, outscoring their rivals 1-3-11, 13 points ahead of second. A bad day for Frenchmen Goron-Clouchardt and Revil Deveaux who did not interpret today’s race course with low winds requiring great attention. For them, the worst matches of the entire event, which left them third and fourth respectively. Goron-Clochard, however, finished fifth overall in the under-17 category, ahead of Italians (Circolo Vela Arco) Bellomi-Berti. Sobczak-Krolick of Poland third under 17. Italy is also on the women’s podium: Tea Sieberg-Cornelia Wiedestam, with Ebba and Ellen Fredriksson in first and third place between the two Swedish crews, Malika Bellomi and Beatrice Conti (Circolo Vela Arco) in second place.
The sailing season in Garda Trentino will end next week with the last regatta organized by Circolo Vela Torbole, which will include a very large participation in the Halloween Cup, an optimistic regatta that will mark another record number of participants this year. A worthy conclusion for a location where regattas, wind and organization always give with time: the electric buoys managed by the Garda Trentino Vela consortium have brought more pluses to the positioning of the regatta fields, which can be adjusted today. Accuracy thanks to the virtual GPS anchor. As happens with technological innovations, a choice that requires constant updates during the first months for proper operation; But after dozens of regattas, in varying wind and wave conditions, and nearly two years of testing and use, they found remarkable reliability.
