Le Mans (France) (AFP) – The drivers of 62 cars, including Irish actor Michael Fassbender and eight-time world rally champion Sebastian Ogier, set off early Saturday at the start of the 90th race of the 24-hour Mans race.

The race started at 4:00 pm local time (2:00 pm GMT) and ended on Sunday 24 hours later.

Thanks to the efforts of Brendan Hartley, Sebastien Bumi and Rio Hirakawa, the race favorites Toyota started at the pole for the sixth consecutive race.

All three won the competition in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Toyota’s second hybrid, the 2021 Paulman Kamui Kobayashi, with the support of Mike Conway and Jose Maria Lopez, has closed the front row for Japanese automakers.

While waiting for a Toyota failure, the other three hypercars, the Alpine of Andre Negro, Matthew Waxivier and Nicholas Lapierre, and two Glycanhos cars.

Next year, several teams in the Premier League will return to the Sartois circuit for the centenary edition of the competition.

A quarter of the 186 drivers who entered the proton race, including movie star Fosbender, who drives a Porsche 911 RSR, were in Le Mans’ first 24 hours of competition.

Two-time Oscar nominee Fassbender crashed into his fourth qualifying lap but suffered no injuries.

“I was consistent,” he said after qualifying. “Still slow but at least stable!” ⁇
