An extraordinary meteorite 4.5 billion years old may hold the secrets of the origin of life on Earth

Scientists have discovered that the Winchcomb meteorite, a very rare carbonaceous concrete, contains a lot of organic matter.

In their new study, scientists aim to reveal the secrets of a rare meteorite and possibly the origin of the oceans and life on Earth. SciTechDaily.

A study of a meteorite that landed in the UK earlier this year shows that the Cosmic Boulder dates back to the formation of the Solar System 4.5 million years ago.

The Wincomb meteorite is a very rare carbonaceous chondrite. It is a rock meteorite rich in water and organic matter, and has retained its chemical composition since the formation of the Solar System.

Since its discovery, British scientists have studied the mineralogy and chemistry of Winchcomb and how the solar system was formed.

“The opportunity to explore the Winchcomb is a dream come true. Many scientists have spent their entire careers studying this unique meteorite. Said.

“The team’s preliminary analysis confirms that Winchcomb contains a lot of biological material. Weeks after the fall, studying a meteorite before any contamination from Earth means that we are really looking back and studying the ingredients that existed at birth,” he said.

A portion of the Winchcomb meteorite discovered during an organized search by the British planetary community is now on display at the Natural History Museum in London.
