Dresden (AP) – A special feature comes under the hammer in Wisebaden on April 24 when four people were blocked from the famous Saxon postage stamp. “Sachsen 3 Pfenig Red” is the only known unit of its kind, as announced by stamp auctioneer Henrik Kohler. This unique model comes from the collection of former Tengelman boss Erivan Hub, who has been auctioned off since 2019.

Auction House manager Dieter Michelson said it is rare for larger units to be stamped than pairs called soccendriors. His information says that there are only nine triple strips with three stamps and that one strip in four and one block in four should be auctioned off. “Most of the pieces were used in Chemnitz between 5 and 14 August 1850, including four blocks.”

Michelson reports that the “Sachendrier” was the second postage stamp on German soil after Bayern I, issued on July 1, 1850. He speculates that Han & Son used the block of four to be franchised and auctioned off heavy catalogs from Chemnits with the dealer. It reappears more than 100 years later: in 1958 at an auction in Dublin (Ireland). “The brand was very famous back then.”

Depending on the level of protection, a single “Saxon 3 Pfenig Red” can fetch between 1000 and 2000 euros. The initial bid for all four is ,000 100,000. “In more than 170 years of history, the post office is now only the third most likely to buy four publicly after being sold on the counter.”
