The trio, who had been on the space station for six months, return safely to Earth

Published on

The three astronauts returned safely to Earth after a six-month mission to the International Space Station.

The Soyuz MS-16 capsule, carrying NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and Roscosmos’ Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Wagner, has landed in Kazakhstan. After a brief medical examination, all three will be taken to DiscusGan, from where they will be flown home.

Speaking to masked members of the recovery team, the staff smiled and reported that NASA and Roscosmos were in good condition.

As part of additional precautions against the corona virus, members of the rescue team visiting the crew tested the virus and limited the number of people involved in the recovery effort.

After arriving at the station on April 9, the trio spent 196 days in orbit.

NASA’s Kate Rubins, Roscosmos’ Sergei Rishikov and Sergei Kud-Sverkov arrived at the orbit post a week ago for a six – month stay.

Before the crew took off, Russian astronauts were able to temporarily close the air leak they had been trying to find for several months. The small leak did not immediately cause any harm to the station staff, and the Ros‌cosmos engineers worked under a permanent seal.
